I made a couple trips out to San Diego over the winter to take advantage of perennially mild weather. The inland regions were rather dry and challenging to photograph this time of year, but the coast was beautiful. San Diego has many architectural points of interest such as lighthouses, catholic missions, and marinas/shipyards that I enjoyed learning about and photographing. Cabrillo National Monument is only minutes from the airport and offers dramatic coastal views, a historic light house, winter whale watching, and an intriguing history as the birthplace of what we now call California.
Just down the road is Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery which honors many USA armed forces in a beautifully manicured setting above seaside cliffs.
Balboa Park is an early 20th century historic park based on traditional Spanish architecture and boasts zoos, museums, historic walking tours, and the world's largest outdoor organ. The magnificent organ can be heard every Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
The Mission San Diego de Alcala is the oldest Spanish mission in California and was rebuilt in 1931 based on the original foundation.
