After 4,500 miles and a lot of diesel, the California road trip went well despite less than ideal shooting conditions. The first stop was in northern California to see Redwood National and State Parks. This included Jedediah Smith, Prairie Creek, and Humboldt State parks along with the beautiful and challenging coastal drive down Highway 1. The drive would be a blast in a good sports car or motorcycle, but was a white knuckle affair with 20ft trailer in tow. These massive and ancient trees truly have to be seen and experienced to comprehend, and gazing to the top of trees that rival most skyscrapers at over 350 feet tall is truly humbling. What is equally impressive is how these trees grow from a seed about the size of a sesame seed dispersed from some of the smallest conifer cones about the size of a quarter.
Many unique creatures call these forests, coasts, and prairies home. From the regal Roosevelt Elk, to the rare Marbled Murrelet, to the iconic Banana Slug
Many new images are now in the Western Pacific Gallery, and much more is to come!
